How to turn one long video into multiple short clips

A good short clip is not simply a random minute cut from a longer recording. It is a small, complete story with a reason to keep watching.

1. Start with the viewer’s payoff

Before cutting anything, decide what the viewer should learn, feel or understand by the end. Look for a clear answer, surprising opinion, useful demonstration or emotionally complete exchange. A moment that requires five minutes of missing context usually needs a different opening.

2. Find a clean beginning

The strongest opening often arrives a sentence before the obvious highlight. Include enough setup for the payoff to make sense, then remove greetings, repeated questions and verbal detours. The first seconds should create curiosity without making a promise the clip cannot deliver.

3. Build one idea per clip

Do not force several unrelated lessons into one short. Split the recording into self-contained moments. One interview or podcast can produce clips about a mistake, a practical tip, a personal story and a disagreement—each with its own beginning and ending.

4. Reframe for a vertical screen

Vertical video needs deliberate composition. Keep the active speaker readable, avoid sudden distracting crop changes and review shots with multiple people. Automatic framing saves time, but every result should still be checked before publishing.

5. Add captions for clarity

Captions help when audio is unavailable or the speaker talks quickly. Keep lines short, use strong contrast and correct names or technical terms. Captions should support the conversation rather than cover faces or important on-screen details.

6. Review the complete export

Watch the rendered clip from beginning to end. Check the hook, crop, caption timing, spelling, audio and final frame. Then write a title that accurately describes the value of the moment.
